Once We Were

Orbs once we were
Suspended in glistening space
Brightly afire and white ablaze
Held only by primordial grace

Then drawn we were
By our pulsing explosive phase
And slowly together we came
Held by love’s orbiting embrace

Until we discovered the world beneath
And heard the call of life’s mortal needs

Too quick by gravity pulled and thrust
And we hurled to earth’s brittle crust

So we fell from heaven we’d known
Helplessly down we found ourselves thrown

Now ensnared by this inescapable mass
Into the world we have finally crashed

Darkening, hardening, now just dying embers
Under the glittering sky of what we once were.
